Idea Generation

I’ve been told that my mind works like an octopus with 50 tentacles. I still can’t figure out if that’s a compliment or not; whatever the case, I like the metaphor. When it comes to naming your business or even your product, there’s a whole whirlpool of things to consider, and from what I’ve seen, it’s one of those things that keeps getting pushed off until the last minute, and when that happens, everybody ends up settling for something less than they like. It brings to mind this quote from “The Fellowship of the Ring.” (I’m a nerd, I know.)

I don’t know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.
— Bilbo Baggins

That’s where the 50 tentacles come in. They work something like this.

  1. You need an idea.
  2. You say, “GO!”
  3. All 50 tentacles instantaneously shoot out in opposite directions.
  4. All 50 tentacles come back wrapped around new ideas.
  5. I sort through all the ideas.
  6. I present to you the best ones.
  7. You choose the one you like.
  8. We all feel good in the end.

I often find that some of the best ideas come when they’re bounced off of others, for that reason I will often recruit some of my best creative minds to aid me. Here are a few of the company’s we’ve named:

Arcanum – Apparel line dedicated towards the martial arts.
Ninja Stuff – Ninja Stuff sells ninja-themed t-shirts and other paraphernalia.
Bow Giggles – Bow Giggles sells hair bows geared towards toddlers.
Frankenswitch – A branding company.
Preemie Babies 101 – Preemie Babies 101 is a social site dedicated to sharing stories and educating mothers of preemie babies.
The Cooking Dish – Cooking blog

Don’t wait, the sooner you get us thinking, the sooner you’re satisfied!
